We offer Math 7, Pre-Algebra 7, and Algebra 1 for our 7th graders at Valley. For our 8th graders we offer Pre-Algebra 8 and Algebra 1. Here is a collection of apps that we are testing out for our Math curriculum. Please let us know if you would like us to try any other apps out.
KickBox. $1.99 Starting in our 3rd grade students are introduced to a character named JiJi who helps them learn progressively more complicated mathematic rules. KickBox by MIND Research Institute brings JiJi to the iPad. We are currently testing this app out for our ARC (Academic Resource Center). This version includes games dealing with lasers, as students work through problem solving techniques. It did seem quite limited, in the scope of the style of problems and in the level of difficulty. I hope that they incorporate more of the algebraic equations from their web version in a future version.

Math Ninja: $1.99 Students become a ninja protecting his home from an evil Tomato and his band of robotic cats and dogs. Students are challenged to answer questions that get increasingly difficult, to keep their treehouse safe from the attack. By answering questions correctly, they are able to earn points to purchase better equipment to go up against the attack.

KickBox: $1.99 The jiji character that our students have been using in the elementary school has been adapted for the iPad. Students enjoy helping the penguin go through a variety of challenges using mathematics and problem solving to aim lasers to remove blocks from the penguins path.

My parents who are both teachers, who can’t properly text me, have been able to engage their students with the help of ipads and powerbooks teaching them math and reading as well as computer literacy at the same time. I’m excited to see what Apple has to offer!

I have heard that the iPad is becoming quite popular for many people who have avoided computers in the past. Getting rid of the mouse and keyboard has made it much easier for my grandparents I know. Thanks for the comment.
